Free Guides: Getting Started with Sex & Relationship Therapy
“Do I need help with this?” can be such a tricky question to answer when it comes to our sex life and intimate relationships. I mean, we all get stuck sometimes, don't we? Whether it’s a recurring argument that never seems to resolve, or a feeling that your intimate life has lost its spark or safety, the question eventually arises whether or not to involve a talk therapy professional.
Why Do I Need A Guide To Starting Therapy?
Starting therapy is a significant step, but for many, it’s also a scary one. Common barriers like not knowing how to choose a therapist, worrying about the cost, or fearing that relationship therapy will just be a blame game often keep people from getting the support they deserve.
I really wanted to break it down into a manageable, easy-to-follow, step-by-step process. So, I've created two new, completely free resources:
1. The Indispensable 10-Step Guide to Preparing for Sex Therapy
2. The Indispensable 10-Step Guide to Preparing for Relationship Therapy.
Why Preparation is the Key to Success
Therapy works best when you enter the room with a sense of clarity and agency. These guides are designed to act as your personal manual for the process, helping you move from uncertainty to a proactive state of confidence in choosing a therapist.
1. The Sex Therapy Preparation Guide
Sex therapy is often shrouded in mystery and myth. This guide strips away the intimidation factor and offers:
-
Myth-Busting Clarity: Understanding that sex therapy is a professional, clinical, and safe space.
-
Reflective Questions: Helping you identify what you truly want to explore.
-
Relationship Awareness: Guidance on whether to attend solo or involve a partner.
-
Practical Logistics: Real-world advice on budgeting and "homework" between sessions.
2. The Relationship Therapy Preparation Guide
Relationship therapy isn't about picking sides; it's about caring for the third entity you've created together, the relationship itself. This guide helps you reframe your approach:
-
A Positive Reframe: Moving away from the idea that therapy equals "failure" and seeing it as a commitment to evolution and healing.
-
Reflective Questions: Exploring your "relationship story" to understand your current dynamics.
-
Financial Planning: Practical tips to ensure therapy fits into your life sustainably.
-
Communication Tools: How to talk to your partner about starting the journey together.
Who Am I To Write These Guides?
I'm Tiga-Rose Nercessian (she/her), and I'm an accredited Sex and Relationship Psychotherapist, trainer, and clinical supervisor. I draw on my lived experience as a queer, multi-ethnic, and multi-neurodivergent synaesthete. This is the life terrain I have navigated to find my own path to walk, and clearings to rest in. These aspects of who I am form and inform me and my practice.
I specialise in supporting neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, kinky, and non-monogamous folk who often feel too-something in other therapeutic settings. My aim is to offer you radical permission to forge a path in love and life that actually feels like home.
By downloading these guides, you aren't just getting a checklist; you are accessing two parallel trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming roadmaps, created by an expert who understands that "normal" is a myth and that your beautifully unconventional way of being in the world deserves support that meets your needs.
Take Your First Step
You don't have to wait for a crisis to seek support. Whether you are curious about your own erotic potential or want to deepen the bond with your partner(s), preparation is the most powerful tool you have.
