The Wild Hunt!
Revelling In Our Otherness

A free 2-hour online workshop for 'othered' folk

Wednesday 9th December 2026

The Call To The Wild Hunt!

In traditional European folklore, as the daylight dies and midwinter approaches, the veil between worlds grows thin. Across the frozen countryside, a sudden, howling gale shakes the trees.

The Wild Hunt is riding.

Historically, villagers locked their doors in fear of the Hunt. The domesticated world demanded safety, predictability, and light. But for those who were already odd, outcast, or marked by "otherness," the Hunt offered a exhilarating alternative - to embrace the chaos, to drive out the "bad spirits" from the society, and to make a stand for what was truly vibrant and alive.

The Cost Of Taming Ourselves

Society teaches those of us who are minoritised, marginalised, and 'othered', such as queer, neurodivergent, and kinky people, to hide, mask, and domesticate ourselves to fit into societal moulds that were never made for us.

We burn an immense amount of energy carrying the dead weight of these unmet expectations, such as:

  • How to behave, perform, and communicate "correctly".

  • How to succeed in systems designed to  reshape & exhaust us.

  • How to swallow our intensity and pass as "normal".

Living this way forces us to spend our lives taming our nature just to be tolerated.

What If We Stopped Trying To Fit In & Stepped Out Into The Storm Instead?

We will gather together online and, through a series of invitational activities over two hours, use the myth of the Hunt to support us to:

  • Release what we no longer want to carry, through writing and destroying our written words.

  • Gather as an unperceived pack, and savour the sense of belonging, through being present with cameras off.

  • Revel in our otherness, through shared stories about our chose objects.

On the final new moon of the calendar year, we will gather together in the darkness. Howling optional!

Myth as a Therapeutic Mirror

In standard therapeutic spaces, we often work on individual regulation, coping strategies, or processing trauma within clinical bounds.

Mythic themes like the Wild Hunt allow us to work differently, by using collective, instinctive archetypes to shift perspective from "I am flawed or broken" to "I am untamed and unbridled", and to be witnessed and celebrated by people who share a similar sense of otherness.

For example, we can see the chaotic gale-force wind as a symbolic tool to sweep away societal conditioning, perfectionism, and masking rules.

Through shared myths and legends, we can reframe our emotional, sensory, or relational intensity not as something to be managed or quieted, but as valid, powerful, and sometimes chaotic, ways of existing.

How Do I Prepare?

Before the call starts, you may want to consider what you want to release and allow The Wild Hunt to chase out of your life.
I invite you to prepare:

  • a candle and lighter, so we can all light our collective intention in our own spaces.
  • some paper and a pen, so you can write down what you want to release.
  • an object that represents your personal 'otherness', which may be a sacred or mundane object.

You are welcome to wear whatever makes you comfortable (or wild!), being mindful not to make other uncomfortable, should you wish to turn your camera on.

What Will Happen?

We will start the call as an 'unperceived pack', with all microphones and cameras off when you join.

I will guide us to set our intention and to light our candles.

We will name and release the 'bad spirits' of our choosing and what drains our vitality, either privately or to the whole group.

Afterwards, if you wish, you will be invited to go into small groups and talk about your chosen object and your othernesses.

We will savour the togetherness of being in a disperate, supportive pack of fellow 'othered' folks, where we can revel in our wildnesses.

Why The Wild Hunt?

Led by ancient figures of the dark sky, Odin on Sleipnir, Gwyn ap Nudd with his spectral hounds, or Frau Perchta sweeping across the mountains, the WIld Hunt is a procession of unearthly riders, beasts, and outcasts. It is a force that ignores human boundaries, breaks down fences, and disrupts the order of the domesticated world.

Many societies have collective myths of purging, in which we can collectively battle and remove bad spirits or negative energies we might be unable to do on our own.

Increasingly, as well as offering individual and relationship therapy, I feel called to provide more and better spaces for othered folks to engage in non-traditional therapeutic relational activities.

To me, the Wild Hunt offers us the opportunity to feel the strength in our community, the connections in our othernesses, and the fellowship of fighting together.

The Wild Hunt Is Calling You
